ANAHEIM — A 26-year-old Anaheim man was killed Saturday night when he was ejected from his pickup truck after it struck a freeway divider, authorities said Sunday.
Cruz Patino was not wearing his seat belt, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said. Passenger Floreba Patino, 19, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. A 2-year-old girl harnessed in a seat restraint survived without injuries.
The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. on the eastbound Riverside Freeway near Brookhurst Street, according to the CHP. Patino was driving in the fast lane about 65 mph, and tried to move to the lane on his right, apparently not noticing a car in that lane, the dispatcher said.
To keep from hitting the other car, Patino slammed on his brakes and lost control of the truck, which struck the freeway divider before overturning. Patino was ejected from the truck, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
