A 6-year-old girl saw her mother and a boyfriend overdose on drugs and then called her grandfather to get help for the couple, authorities said.

The unidentified woman and her boyfriend apparently overdosed on unknown drugs at about 8:40 p.m. Monday inside a home in the 5900 block of Hill View Avenue in Van Nuys, police said.

Police spokeswoman Susan Rojas said the grandfather immediately called 911 after getting the frantic call from his granddaughter.

An emergency response team found the couple unconscious at the home. The woman was taken to North Hollywood Medical Center and the man was rushed to Sherman Oaks Hospital. Both were listed in stable condition.

Neighbor Donna Epstein said the woman, who lives in a tidy, gated home near the intersection of Oxnard Street and Woodman Avenue, had overdosed on drugs in the past. Epstein said the woman usually kept to herself and rarely socialized with neighbors.

Rojas said the girl’s call probably saved the couple’s lives. The child was placed in the custody of her grandfather.
