Two Ventura men accused of wounding a 16-year-old boy during a January drive-by shooting pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Ventura County Superior Court to charges of attempted murder and related allegations.
Danny Zizumbo, 21, and Eric Martinez, 19, face 25 years to life in prison if convicted, Deputy Dist. Atty. J. Thomas Connors said. A 16-year-old boy also is accused of participating in the attack.
The three suspected gang members are accused of shooting Daniel Rodriguez in the leg as he stood outside a home in the 1300 block of Arrowhead Avenue on Jan. 8.
Rodriguez still suffers from a bullet that has not been removed, the prosecutor said. Connors said Zizumbo was the shooter, but that the other two defendants were in the car.
Separate trial dates were set for the two adults, and a hearing is scheduled later this month to determine whether the juvenile should be tried as an adult, Connors said.
Zizumbo will face trial April 23, and Martinez will stand trial June 11.
