Rally Defends Mobile Home Rent Control

Share

Mobile home residents and their supporters from across Ventura County are scheduled to rally in Simi Valley this morning in opposition to a ballot measure that would remove rent controls from mobile home parks.

The No on Proposition 199 campaign has invited City Council members Bill Davis, Barbara Williamson and Sandi Webb to attend the meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Friendly Village Mobile Home Park’s recreation room at 195 Tierra Rejada Road.

Eliminating rent controls would hurt elderly people who live on low fixed incomes, said Milly Spehr, president of the Simi Friendly Village Homeowners’ Assn.

While nearly all park residents own their mobile homes, they must rent the lots the trailers sit on from park managers, she said.

“They won’t be able to keep their mobile homes,” Spehr said. “They’re going to have to sell them.”
