Share

More than 60 kinds of kosher food and wine from area restaurants and caterers will tempt visitors to the second annual “A Taste of Kosher L.A. and Wine Festival” Sunday at the University of Judaism.

Mostly nontraditional kosher Jewish foods, as well kosher Italian, Mexican and Chinese cuisine prepared according to Jewish dietary laws will be offered.

Samples will include breast of chicken with sun-dried tomatoes, baked salmon, knishes and nondairy ice cream. Both meat and pareve--neither meat nor dairy--dishes will be made.

“The idea is to show how kosher foods are becoming more gourmet,” said Robin Heffler, spokeswoman for the university.

Jewish jazz and folk bands will entertain and a traveling exhibit from My Jewish Discovery Place Children’s Museum will offer arts and crafts and other activities for families.

All proceeds will go toward undergraduate scholarships. The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the university, 15600 Mulholland Drive. Admission is $5 general, $4 seniors and free for children 13 and younger. Food samples will cost $1 to $4; wine tasting will be $10.
