Countywide : Rohrabacher Aide Faces Trial in May

Share

Rhonda Carmony, campaign manager for Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach), is scheduled to face trial in May on allegations she violated the state Political Reform Act in 1991.

A pretrial hearing in the case was held Wednesday in Municipal Court in Santa Ana, where Court Commissioner Cheryl L. Leininger set a follow-up hearing for April 17 and trial for May 13, according to court officials.

Carmony has been charged with seven misdemeanor violations in the 1991 case, for allegedly failing to file required documents for a campaign committee that sent out a negative mailer against a former Diamond Bar city councilwoman. Each count carries a possible six-month jail sentence and a $1,000 fine.

Carmony also has been named as the key player by others who have pleaded guilty to participating in a Republican ploy to place a decoy Democrat in last November’s 67th Assembly District election. She has not been charged in connection with that scheme.

Creighton Laz, Carmony’s lawyer, said Carmony committed no crime in connection with either effort.
