South Bay : HONORING LEDA GRIFFIN

Share

It’s taken more than one year but Hawthorne Intermediate School students and administrators have created a park in memory of a well-liked teacher who was slain last year and plan to dedicate the park next week on the first anniversary of her death.

Nestled between two classroom buildings, the Leda Griffin Friendship Park is a combined effort among students, parents and administrators who donated time and money to honor the 44-year-old eighth-grade history teacher who was killed when her husband, Ibrahim Gonzalez, attacked her with a hunting knife. Gonzalez was recently found guilty of second-degree murder, Hawthorne Principal Sharon Phillips said.

The park will be dedicated Thursday at 4 p.m.
