Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim was asked how it felt to be a “good coach” again after getting his team into the West Regional finals today against Kansas.

“Who said I am?” Boeheim replied.

It wasn’t the only question Boeheim answered with a question of his own.

Asked if Syracuse could play an up-tempo game with Kansas, Boeheim replied:

“Why don’t you ask Georgetown that question?”

Syracuse beat Georgetown, 85-64, the last time the teams met.

Kansas plays a man-to-man defense and allows its players to flow freely on offense.

Coach Roy Williams said his philosophy is to allow players to play.

“A lot of times I’ll stop practice and say what would you do if you were on the playground,” Kansas said.

When Ben Davis was a freshman at Kansas (he later transferred to Arizona), Williams did just that, asking Davis what he would do on the playground. Davis replied that he would take his defender to the basket and dunk.

“I said, ‘You think I don’t like that? Why don’t you do that now?’ ” Williams said.
