Two people who were killed when their helicopter plowed into a remote hillside en route to Brackett Airfield in La Verne were identified Monday.
The bodies of pilot Jeffrey Michael Wong, 36, of Rowland Heights and passenger Yuan Ying “James” Chang, 27, of Pasadena were found by searchers when they discovered the wreckage Sunday, said San Bernardino County coroner’s spokesman Gabriel Morales.
The Schweizer 269C helicopter, which had been missing since Friday, was seen by a flying instructor on the east side of Deer Canyon in the San Bernardino National Forest, north of Rancho Cucamonga at an elevation of about 4,600 feet, officials said.
Beelby said fog and low clouds probably were factors in the crash. “There was a ceiling of 1,000 to 2,000 feet with zero visibility,” he said.
