The United States will be without its top four players in next month’s Davis Cup match against the Czech Republic.

Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Michael Chang and Jim Courier, all ranked in the top 10, have chosen not to play because of their tournament schedules, team captain Tom Gullikson said Monday.

“I started at the top and worked my way down,” Gullikson said. “I talked to each guy once.”

Todd Martin and MaliVai Washington will play singles, and Patrick McEnroe and Pat Galbraith will play doubles in the second-round match April 5-7 indoors at Prague.

The Czech team will be led by streaky Petr Korda, ranked 50th on the ATP Tour.

Only Agassi will be unavailable for Davis Cup all year, Gullikson said, and the other top-10 players would be willing participate if the U.S. advances.
