TRASHED: Residents of a Thousand Oaks neighborhood say one house on the block has become something of a sideshow, with cars cruising by to see the piles of junk--everything from rusted-out vehicles to grocery bags full of trash (B1). “We should set up a lemonade stand or something,” said Susan Bachner, a neighbor for 20 years. . . . The city is suing homeowner Adolph Leben for the third time in seven years over the debris.

CHILD CARE: The news that the child-development center at Point Mugu has been closed temporarily amid allegations of molestation against one day-care worker has alarmed many parents at the Navy base (B1). . . . Those looking for a new child-care provider--or checking out the one they’ve got--can call Community Care Licensing at 682-7647 to learn if the facility or provider is licensed by the state and if there have been any complaints filed.

PILLOW PALS: When members of the Conejo Valley Junior Women’s Club were looking for a project, they hit upon the idea of making special pillows for breast-cancer patients. After a few calls, they found a hospital that wanted them. . . . So next week, club members will present the first of the dozen they have made--to a 70-year-old woman two hours before her surgery at Westlake Comprehensive Cancer Center. “She’s touched by it,” said Therese Parmele of the hospital’s marketing department. “It shows that someone cares.”
