Michigan Ends 32-Year Drought

Michigan won an unprecedented eighth national hockey title, but its first in 32 years, when Brendan Morrison flipped in a rebound 3:35 into overtime for a 3-2 victory Saturday over Colorado College.

Michigan (33-7-2) faced long odds in overtime--the Wolverines were 2-7 in NCAA tournament overtimes and had been eliminated from the playoffs the last three years in overtime. Michigan was 0-4-2 in its last six overtimes.

Neither team led by more than a goal in a game dominated by defense.

Colorado College got a pair of goals from Peter Geronazzo and Colin Schmidt within a two-minute span of the second period, and Michigan got goals in the first period from Bill Muckalt and the third from Steven Halko.

Colorado College (33-5-4) was trying for its first national championship since 1957, when it beat Michigan.
