Motorcycle Officer Hit, Driver Arrested
A motorcycle traffic officer was struck by a pickup truck Sunday night that allegedly ran a red light and then continued on without stopping, police said.
Officer Lisa Turvey, who is the only female motorcycle officer assigned to the Valley Traffic Division of the Los Angeles Police Department, was not seriously injured, said Lt. Joe Rezzo of the LAPD.
Witnesses in at least two cars followed the suspect, Rezzo said, forcing his vehicle to the side of the street and blocking his way until police arrived.
Police did not release the name of the driver, who was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and felony hit and run and taken to the Van Nuys jail.
Turvey was brought to Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, where she was treated for minor injuries, Rezzo said.
The incident occurred as Turvey was riding her motorcycle through the intersection of Woodman Avenue and Oxnard Street. She had just exited a gas station and was accelerating into traffic when the truck smashed into her motorcycle.
