Local Artist in the Spotlight at Arts Center
Pencil drawings by a Simi Valley artist are on display at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center through April 28.
John Puckett, who has lived in Simi Valley for more than eight years, is showing 31 of his drawings in the arts center’s lower gallery.
Originally from Birmingham, Ala., Puckett studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago after serving in World War II. He is a retired commercial artist with advertising and engraving experience.
He draws portraits, landscapes, animals and other subjects, and his drawings vary from black and white to color and from pencil only to oil on pencil.
Turn-of-the-century photographs of Simi Valley taken by John Sparhawk Appleton, a member of one of the city’s founding families, are on display in the arts center’s main gallery. The exhibit will also run through April 28.
The Cultural Arts Center galleries at 3050 Los Angeles Ave. are open from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and during performances. Admission is free.
