Fuji Film Blasts U.S. Review of Trade Barriers: The Japanese photo film company cited “glaring flaws” in an annual report of foreign trade barriers and renewed its call for a neutral fact-finding mechanism to resolve allegations that Japan’s market for photographic film is closed to foreign competition. Rochester, N.Y.-based Eastman Kodak Co. has alleged that Fuji and the Japanese government colluded to lock up more than 80% of Japan’s photo market. The National Trade Estimate report “provides a one-sided picture of market conditions in Japan,” Fuji lawyer Bill Barringer wrote to U.S. Trade Rep. Mickey Kantor. The report, released Monday, called on Japan to begin talks with the U.S. to open its photo market.
