OASIS SLAM: A prominent English conservative activist is calling for a boycott of the band Oasis in response to interview comments by guitarist Noel Gallagher boasting about past criminal activities and his use of drugs and alcohol to stimulate creativity.

Adrian Rogers, spokesman for the Conservative Family Institute--a group with influence on the governing Conservative Party--said on the “GMTV” television show that he was outraged by Gallagher’s comments to Melody Maker that as boys the band members burgled houses and stole car stereos and that “most of the songs I write are written under the influence of something or another.”

“This is actually yobbish, criminal behavior and most young people don’t want that,” Rogers said. “But there are some very simple people out there and some rather simple-minded youngsters who see this as a pinnacle of behavior. . . .

“This is evil, pop drugs culture. It’s time that everybody who promoted it, sold it or had anything to do with it said, ‘I’m not going to support that sort of society. These people belong in the gutter and therefore I’m not going to promote their records.’ ”
