Names Being Added to Pier Donor Wall

Share

An additional 280 names will be added to the 2,000 already on the Huntington Beach Pier Donor Wall. The City Council has voted to spend about $2,000 to cover the cost of having the new names inscribed into the granite structure at the pier’s entrance.

In October, the city began a fourth round of seeking contributions to pay for reconstruction of the municipal pier. The latest campaign raised more than $29,000, including two $1,000 donations.

The new names are to be added to the wall by May.

Begun in 1992, the wall recognizes those who have contributed $100 or more to the rebuilding of the pier, which was damaged by a storm in 1988, repaired for nearly $11 million and reopened in July 1992.

The Donor Wall will be moved to a new location between the pier and Pacific Coast Highway, when the Pier Plaza improvement project begins this year.

Deputy City Administrator Richard Barnard said space is still available for more names and that another enrollment period will be held in coming months. Information: (714) 536-5514.
