Sister of Stabbing Victim Plans Memorial Bike Ride
Christopher Dwayne Barreto dreamed of competing in the Tour de France, but those plans were destroyed last fall when the 25-year-old man was robbed and stabbed to death on the Strand in Manhattan Beach.
In honor of her brother’s dream and in memory of the Persian Gulf War veteran, his sister, Penny Barreto, has planned a memorial bicycle ride Sunday.
The seven-mile ride from Santa Monica to Venice on the Strand is expected to raise funds to help find Barreto’s killers.
“We planned this in hopes that the memory of Chris would stay fresh in people’s minds,” Penny Barreto said. “We also wanted to recognize Christopher and who he was.”
Sunday’s ride starts at 2030 Bernard Way in Santa Monica at 9 a.m.
