Rooms With a Celebrity View

Share

The Tudor house nestled behind the lush facade across from the Hotel Bel-Air is the perfect setting for the inaugural Celebrity Design House. Not only is the place filled with the memorabilia of contemporary stars, it also reflects the life of its former owner, actress Greer Garson.

In the music room, for instance, Frank Sinatra’s family photos will sit atop the baby grand, in the same alcove where Garson and her then-husband, Richard Ney, both accomplished pianists, played twin grand pianos. The actress, who died Saturday at age 92, had lived in the mansion from 1942 until 1972, when she and her last husband, Buddy Fogelson, moved to Texas. There are still remnants of Garson’s life here--including stone bridges that arch across the natural stream that runs through the property, and the Miniver rose, named for the character that earned her an Oscar, which is still blooming in the garden.

For the design house event, each room has celebrity mementos on display and/or incorporated into the decor. Among them: Clint Eastwood (“Dirty Harry” holster), Barbara Eden (her bottle from “I Dream of Jeannie”), Carol Burnett, Diane Keaton, Angela Lansbury, Whoopi Goldberg, Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman, and others. Proceeds will benefit the Wellness Community.
