Sylmar Man Arrested After Chase

Share

A Sylmar man led California Highway Patrol officers on an hourlong chase through two counties at speeds of up to 100 mph Wednesday before he was apprehended in San Bernardino, authorities said.

Waldemar Harold Ozimek, 30, was speeding on Sierra Highway about 9 a.m. when traffic officers signaled him to pull over, CHP Officer Craig Carroll said. Ignoring the flashing lights, Ozimek instead sped away and swerved in and out of traffic for about 50 miles before stopping in the parking lot of a San Bernardino college, Carroll said.

Three CHP officers suffered minor eye irritation when Ozimek sprayed them with low-grade pepper spray after the chase ended, Carroll said. Ozimek was arrested on felony charges of refusing to pull over.
