City Finds Multitude of Too-Tall Fences
A complaint from a resident that her neighbor’s tall frontyard fence was blocking her view of the ocean led city officials to a discovery: 17% of homes in the Marina Shores area of Dana Point are breaking the fence limit.
City code specifies that front-yard fences may be no more than 42 inches, “a fairly standard height,” said Lance B. Schulte, senior planner. Though “people’s fences are not something we go out hunting for,” he said, the city is investigating the matter.
The City Council this week ordered a study to find out how many residences across Dana Point are violating the same ordinance. “We just want to take a look and reevaluate if current standards are appropriate and need to be modified,” Schulte said.
The study will analyze how many homes are not in compliance with the law and how the problem should be addressed.
