The Las Vegas Thunder scored two shorthanded goals in the first period on the way to a 6-4 victory over the Ice Dogs on Saturday night at Las Vegas, knocking the Ice Dogs out of IHL playoff contention.

“It is always disappointing if you don’t make the playoffs,” said Coach John Van Boxmeer. “That is your goal all season, and once you make it, anything can happen.”

The Ice Dogs twice managed a one-goal lead but were unable to maintain it. The Thunder’s two shorthanded goals in the first came from Sergei Zholtok and Gregori Panteleyev.
