South Coast Hockey Team Reaches Semifinals

The South Coast Sabers scored six goals in the third period and defeated Anchorage, 9-3, to advance to the semifinals in the pee-wee division of the USA Hockey national championships Saturday in Cleveland. The Sabers play Ithaca, N.Y., at 8 a.m. today. The finals will be played at 5 tonight.

With his team leading, 1-0, after the first period, Ryan Hollweg scored on a pass from his brother Bryce early in the second. Anchorage scored two goals to make it 3-2 after two periods.

Beau Walsh was in goal for the Sabers in the third period and gave up only one goal. Ambrose Chan had three goals for South Coast.

Ryan Hollweg and Jason Attanasio each had two goals for the Sabers. Leading scorer Chris White had one goal and two assists.

South Coast advanced to the quarterfinals with a 9-0 victory over Arvada, Colo., and an 8-8 tie with Arlington, Mass. White has seven goals and four assists in two games.

The Bullfrogs have announced their games will be broadcast this season by Children’s Broadcasting Corporation/Radio’s KPLS-AM 830.

KPLS will broadcast live the team’s complete 28-game Roller Hockey International schedule, as well as the July 8 all-star game.

Charlie Simmer will return for his third season as the team’s color analyst. The team is expected to announce its new play-by-play voice next week.
