Spring ArtWalk Set for Tonight

Share

Nearly 50 businesses, coffeehouses and galleries will open their doors and extend their hours tonight for the first Ventura ArtWalk of 1996.

Held in April, July and November, the evening events feature free art exhibits throughout the downtown area.

ArtWalks were started nearly a decade ago by seven galleries to show off local talent, but have since grown in popularity as hundreds of visitors crowd downtown sidewalks and fill coffeehouses.

Tonight’s ArtWalk will take on a Latin flavor with performances by the Latin jazz group Nuestro and the dance troupe Ballet Folklorico.

A variety of ArtWalk sponsors will also feature live entertainment, and several artists will be on hand to answer questions about their work at participating galleries and shops.

In addition, seven coffeehouses will offer free coffee tasting as part of Java Jump, an accompanying program.

Participating businesses are within walking distance of one another and will be identified by signs.

The ArtWalk will stretch from the intersection of Main and Santa Clara streets to Peking Street and extend from Poli Street to California Street Plaza. Tonight’s event begins at 6 and continues until 10.
