Canoga Park : Festival to Highlight Student Achievements

Canoga Park public school students will show off their academic, artistic and athletic achievements at an event honoring them Sunday.

The Festival of Student Achievement will feature musical, dance, dramatic and choral performances by students as well as displays of students’ works in such subjects as history, science, math, social studies, language arts and physical education.

The event, held in conjunction with a health fair, will also offer free health examinations, screenings and referrals.

Other activities will include karate and wrestling demonstrations and performances by Canoga Park High’s marching band and nationally award-winning cheerleading squad.

Career counseling will be available for students and the West Valley Boys & Girls Club, which will launch a program at Columbus Middle School next year, will have a booth at Sunday’s event.

Also on hand will be the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the LAPD’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) unit, which will give a demonstration of its K-9 unit.

Schools participating in the festival are Columbus Middle School and Canoga Park High School, and Canoga Park, Capistrano Avenue, Hamlin Avenue, Hart Street, Justice Street and Sunny Brae Avenue elementary schools.

The event will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at Columbus Middle School, 22250 Elkwood St. in Canoga Park.
