Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, the Cranberries, Cypress Hill and the Allman Brothers Band are among the big names set to appear on “On Tour,” a public television series of 26 shows featuring live rock performances that will start airing in June. The hourlong shows will feature three acts doing three songs each. Up-and-comers scheduled include the Fugees, Tony Rich and the Verve Pipe. . . .

Garth Brooks is recording every concert on his 1996 tour while considering whether to release a live album. Brooks, one of contemporary music’s most dynamic performers, will evaluate the tapes after the trek. . . .

Early sessions by the Gits, the Seattle band whose singer Mia Zapata was murdered in 1993, have been compiled by the surviving members for an album that is being shopped to labels. . . .

Willie Nelson in dreadlocks? The country maverick has recorded a reggae album with producer Don Was, mixing reworkings of Nelson songs with such reggae classics as “The Harder They Come.” A more conventional Nelson album, “Spirit,” will be released in June, with the reggae sessions to follow in the fall. . . .

Jerry Heller, the former manager of N.W.A. and the late Eazy-E, is returning with a Latin-music label. The first release, set for August, is from a group called G Spot G, which Heller describes as “sort of a Latin N.W.A., though not as objectionable as our rap had become.”
