Windsharp Is the Favorite in San Juan Capistrano
Looking to become only the third female ever to win the San Juan Capistrano and the first since 1975, Windsharp is the 8-5 favorite in Santa Anita’s longest race.
A winner of all three of her previous starts at the meeting, the 5-year-old mare will try to join Miss Grillo and La Zanzara as victorious ladies in the 1 3/4-mile turf marathon. Eddie Delahoussaye will again ride for trainer Wally Dollase and owners Richard and Martha Stephen. Windsharp will break from the rail in the field of seven.
Awad, who hasn’t won since he took the Arlington Million Aug. 27, is the 2-1 second choice. The rest of the field includes Beau Temps, Awesome Thought, Raintrap, Special Price, who had much trouble in the San Luis Rey Stakes last month, and Malmo. Auvergne was scratched Saturday morning.
