Westlake Village : Funding Restored for Cultural Arts Grants

Share

Westlake Village has reinstated the cultural grant program that was cut three years ago because of budget constraints, city officials said.

The city has set aside $5,000 in grant money for cultural arts groups, which will be eligible for a minimum of $250 each, depending on their needs, officials said.

The city regretted halting the program because officials know that cultural groups depend on donations, Councilwoman Betty De Santis said. And now that the program has been reinstated, she said, the city is bracing for a surge of applicants.

De Santis and Councilwoman Kris Carraway represent the council on the city’s Cultural Affairs Committee.

“That’s great news,” said Jerry Knotts, president of the Westlake Village Cultural Foundation, which organized various arts programs during the year. Loss of the grant money, he said, has put a crimp in the group’s activities.

Deadline to apply for the grants is May 17. Applications can be obtained by calling City Hall at (818) 706-1631.
