Facing the daunting task of overcoming a 2-0 deficit in their first-round playoff series with the Detroit Red Wings, the Winnipeg Jets came up with a 4-1 victory in Game 3 Sunday at Winnipeg.

A deafening roar of support from 15,544 white-clad fans gave the Jets the kind of lift they needed to come back after dropping their first two games in Detroit.

Keith Tkachuk, Chad Kilger, Eddie Olczyk and Dave Manson scored for the Jets.

Tampa Bay 5, Philadelphia 4--Alexander Selivanov scored about two minutes into overtime, giving the Lightning the victory at St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Lightning stunned the top-seeded team in the Eastern Conference in overtime for the second consecutive game, taking a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series before a league playoff-record 25,945 at the ThunderDome.

The Lightning won despite playing without goaltender Daren Puppa, who was scratched because of back spasms.

New York Rangers 2, Montreal 1--Adam Graves scored twice and Mark Messier played a dominant game as the Rangers battled back into their first-round playoff series with the victory at Montreal.

The Rangers’ crucial victory assured them that they would not go down 3-0 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference series.

Chicago 7, Calgary 5--Eric Daze stymied a furious comeback by the Flames with his second goal of the game, at Calgary.

The Flames had rallied from a five-goal deficit to make the score 5-4 when Daze took a cross-ice pass from Jeremy Roenick. He went in all alone to score.

Joe Murphy scored moments later to secure the victory and a 3-0 series lead.

St. Louis 3, Toronto 2--Glenn Anderson tapped in a pass from Shayne Corson at 1:24 of overtime as the Blues won at St. Louis to take a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series.

Mats Sundin’s power-play goal at 4:02 of the extra period gave Toronto a 5-4 victory Thursday. This one set a Blues record for the shortest playoff overtime game at home, beating the previous mark of 1:32 on April 27, 1968.

Earlier, the NHL suspended Toronto left winger Nick Kypreos for one game, the result of his collision with goalie Grant Fuhr of St. Louis on Thursday. Fuhr suffered torn knee ligaments, but skated without equipment before the game.
