Woodland Hills : New Pierce College Head to Visit Campus

Share

Pierce College’s new president, E. Bing Inocencio, is scheduled to arrive at the school’s campus today from New York for a four-day visit to introduce him to the college community.

A busy schedule awaits Inocencio, whose appointment comes at a troubling time for the college, which is suffering from financial problems, declining enrollment and what some say is a lack of leadership.

The campus community is looking forward to meeting him, said Ina Geller, the school’s spokeswoman. “It’s a very hopeful time, and people are happy and excited,” she said.

He will meet today with the Pierce College Council and the Associated Students Organization.

“It speaks volumes about him that he wants to meet with the students because it tells that he is a president who is concerned about student issues,” said Duleep Rodrigo, the student organization’s vice president. “The students have needed a strong president for a long time.”

It will be Inocencio’s second visit to the campus. He came to the college last year during the interview process.

Inocencio is currently serving as associate provost for academic administration at New York City Technical College in Brooklyn.

He is slated to meet with the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees on Wednesday, and with the school’s foundation on Thursday. He is scheduled to return again to Pierce College next month, for the school’s commencement.
