Annual Paramedic Fees Going Up by $3

Subscribers to the city’s paramedic service soon will be paying $3 more in annual fees.

The City Council has voted to increase the rate to $27. The change will be announced to subscribers in a notice included with next month’s utility bills, Fire Chief Stephen P. Magliocco said.

The fee is going up because local hospitals last year stopped supplying paramedic vans with medical supplies. The city had to take over the cost of bandages, drugs and other supplies for emergency treatment.

Even with the increase, Magliocco said, Fullerton’s fee is among the lowest in the county. Anaheim, for example, charges paramedic subscribers $36 a year.

“It’s one of the biggest bargains you can get,” he said.

Those who do not have the paramedic service are billed $200 to $300 for each emergency call that the city answers.
