JAZZED UP: Lenetta Kidd, above, never thought...

JAZZED UP: Lenetta Kidd, above, never thought of using her classically trained soprano voice for jazz until she saw greats like Sarah Vaughan and Ernie Andrews perform. “They were into the moment of the music,” Kidd says. . . . Kidd doesn’t just headline the Moonlight Tango Cafe in Sherman Oaks; in two weeks she’ll be a co-owner of the place. See Valley Weekend (F16).

OLDIES BUT GOODIES: The Valley’s “Antique Row,” a five-block stretch of Sherman Way in Canoga Park, is making a comeback. . . . The number of shops is nearly back to what it was before the Northridge earthquake. “Everything breakable broke,” says Alan Beutler, owner of Old Friends. But his and 15 other stores are back in business (F1A).

NEW OWNER: Bouquet Canyon Park in Santa Clarita now officially belongs to that young city. County supervisors transferred title Tuesday in a bid to save money. . . . The city has run the park since 1993, so “no one will be able to tell the difference,” said Sandra de la Riva of the county parks department.

PLANNING AHEAD: It’s never too late for disaster preparedness. UCLA is sponsoring a two-day conference beginning today to discuss transportation improvements to prevent the kinds of problems caused by the Northridge temblor two years ago. . . . Scholars from as far away as London will draw lessons from the quakes in Loma Prieta, Northridge and Kobe, Japan--which shattered major roadways.

APPROVED: Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar has passed the routine accreditation check conducted earlier this month. But County-USC Medical Center might not be so lucky. . . . Word is the hospital may have to be resurveyed because of various deficiencies.
