Nation IN BRIEF : MONTANA : Negotiators Hold Talks With ‘Freemen’

Two negotiators held talks with members of the anti-government “freemen” at their remote ranch in an effort to end their standoff with federal agents. Montana state legislator Karl Ohs and John Connor, chief prosecutor of the state Department of Justice, drove onto the ranch near Jordan, Mont., witnesses said. They were met by one of the freemen and then went inside for talks.
