To dedicated British pub crawlers, Scotch eggs are pure comfort food. But sometimes these hard-boiled eggs encased in a layer of sausage meat (who says British cookery isn’t inventive?) can be a greasy disaster. Not so at the Robin Hood Pub, where they’re baked slowly to degrease the meat. This leaves a juicy, sage-laced sausage layer enclosing tender, perfectly cooked eggs. Wash them down with a glass of the pub’s hard cider or a pint of ale on tap--perhaps Fuller’s London Pride or Whitbread.

The Robin Hood Pub, 13640 Burbank Blvd., Van Nuys; (818) 994-6045. Scotch eggs, $3.75.
