Cal State Northridge’s associate dean for the School of Humanities has been named dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Humboldt State University.

Mark W. Rocha, also a CSUN professor of English, specializes in African American and Latino drama and literature. He has published works on Pulitzer Prize-winning African American playwright August Wilson and taught last year as a Fulbright scholar in Venezuela.

“He has a lot of creative energies in curriculum and professional development of faculty,” said Alfred J. Guillaume Jr., provost and vice president for academic affairs at Humboldt. “He’s extremely strong in the area of multicultural literature, and so that’s going to be a major plus for us.”

Rocha said he looks forward to being part of a new generation of leadership in the California State University system.

“I think these are going to be exciting times,” he said. “A dean at any of the campuses has a real opportunity to have some positive influence on the direction of CSU in the future.”
