Street Closure OKd for Holiday Ceremony

Share

At the request of the city’s advisory Cultural & Beautification Committee, the City Council has voted to close part of Walker Street to traffic during the Memorial Day ceremony at the Civic Center.

Walker Street between Thelma and La Palma avenues will be closed from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m. May 27, the council decided.

The Cultural & Beautification Committee, in a memo to the council, noted that last year the city closed part of Walker Street for the first time, which “considerably reduced distractions from loud car noise and the occasional honking of horns.”

The goal, the memo stated, is to “maintain the solemnity of the event.”

The city’s staff said the street closure will require two police officers and three public works employees on special pay. The total cost to the city will be $529.
