Leighton Street to Get Blocklong Cleanup
In an effort to redeem their neighborhood from the ravages of crime and pollution, residents of Leighton Street in west Ventura are planning a blocklong community cleanup Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon.
Using five trash trucks donated by a local trash hauler, neighbors and police will junk the junk that has blighted the residential street and frustrated residents.
“They called down here because they were fed up,” said Sharon Troll, a volunteer at the westside police storefront.
Leighton Street residents asked Ventura police to help them clear out their neighborhood, which has been struggling against crime, vandalism and pollution.
Police agreed, but in turn asked residents to launch a Neighborhood Watch program. “The idea is to help the neighbors help themselves,” Troll said.
