Cancilla Extends Streak; Chapman Wins

Lisa Cancilla extended her hitting streak to 31 games, setting an NCAA Division III record, as Chapman defeated UC San Diego, 17-1 and 10-0, in a nonconference doubleheader Saturday at UC San Diego.

Cancilla set the mark in the second game, going two for four at the plate. The previous record was 30, set by teammate Jessamin Maiben.

Maiben won both games for the Panthers (36-7) to improve her record to 11-3.

Chapman is ranked first in Division III.

In Big West Conference softball:

CS Fullerton 9-6, UC Santa Barbara 0-3--Traci Fischer hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to give Cal State Fullerton a 6-3 lead in the second game (39-24, 17-13). Chris Zboril hit a two-run homer for the Titans (39-24, 17-13) in the first inning.

In the NAIA Far West Regional women’s tennis tournament:

Le wins singles, doubles title--Quynh Le of Southern California College rallied from a three-game deficit in the third set to defeat Bettina Bajsic of Point Loma Nazarene, 7-5, 6-4, 7-5, in a three-hour match.

Le and doubles partner Wendy Andel defended their 1995 title with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Bajsic and Theresa Klein.

In the Golden State Athletic Conference men’s tennis tournament:

Robbins defends doubles title--Davey Robbins of Southern California College defended his doubles title with partner Ryan Lewis, 6-3, 6-4, over Mathias Sundberg and Ray Starck of Point Loma Nazarene.
