Plane Forced to Make Landing in Los Alamitos

Two men in a twin-engine plane made an emergency skid landing at the Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve Center on Tuesday after one of the engines and the landing gear failed, Federal Aviation Administration officials said.

The pilot of Cessna 310, originally heading for Long Beach Airport, notified base authorities about 5 p.m. that he had problems with one of the engines and that he had no front landing gear. The aircraft skidded down the runway safely, and neither of the men on board was injured, FAA spokesman Bruce Nelson said.

Officials did not release the names of pilot or passenger and did not know what caused the engine failure.
