Family Law Issues Featured at Forum

The Ventura County Commission for Women will hold its seventh annual Family Law Forum at Ventura College on May 18.

Residents can get information on divorce, child support, child visitation and other family law issues at the free event.

“Divorce can be very scary and can be something that many people have never gone through,” said forum moderator Susan Witting, a private Thousand Oaks attorney who practices family law. “When faced with custody of children, child support and other issues, they are at the mercy of the world. It’s like saying to a mechanic, ‘Go fix my car and here’s a blank check.’ ”

Reservations are required for the event, which will take place at Guthrie Hall. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the forum runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The forum will feature speakers, including attorneys, judges and Ventura County sheriff’s officials who specialize in family law and domestic violence issues.

In the afternoon, participants can browse among information tables on topics such as “judges’ perspective on child and spousal support” and “child custody and visitation.”

For more information on the forum, call Witting at 497-7564.
