High school juniors may apply now to explore current events at UC Irvine’s annual Knowledge and Social Responsibility program, scheduled for July 28 to Aug. 7.

The free 10-day residential camp is open to students who attend public or private school in Orange County.

The program will feature academic discussions, guest lecturers and Internet workshops, all designed to encourage the development of personal opinions on issues and to create a sense of social responsibility.

In addition, the KSR program has planned several follow-up activities for participants during the 1996-97 school year to help them share with their peers the information they learned in the workshops.

The KSR camp is sponsored by the Orange County chapter of the National Conference and the office of the vice chancellor for student services at UCI.

The National Conference is a human relations organization dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry and racism in America.

Applicants will be selected based on grade point average, involvement in extracurricular activities and responses to application questions.

Applications are being accepted until the end of May.
