Brown, Dale, Haggard Will Get a Taste of O.C.

The Godfather of Soul, the King of the Surf Guitar, and the Bard of Bakersfield will be the headliners for the eighth annual Taste of Orange County festival.

James Brown will get funky on the opening night, June 21, Dick Dale will savage his Stratocaster on June 22, and Merle Haggard & the Strangers will twang and drawl on June 23.

The festival, which showcases the cookery of local restaurant chefs along with an array of musical talent, will take place at a new location: the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.

Featured performances by Brown, Dale and Haggard are scheduled for 8 p.m. on the main stage. Complete entertainment bookings have yet to be announced, but Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers and the Starlights, a gospel group featured at the House of Blues, will be the openers for James Brown.
