Man With Ax Accused of Charging Firefighter
The thanks they get.
Ventura County firefighters put out a fire burning at Wesley Campbell’s Simi Valley residence Saturday, only to have the 21-year-old man come after their captain with an ax, police said.
Turns out the flames were in a fire pit in Campbell’s back yard, and Saturday was the third time firefighters had been called out to his house to investigate.
Any fires at a residence, other than in a fireplace or for cooking, are illegal without a permit, according to a county fire spokeswoman.
Capt. Jerry Garner retreated and called Simi Valley police, who arrested Campbell and booked him at the East Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Campbell faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
