Pizzeria Gunman Escapes With Cash
Police are searching for a man suspected of pulling a handgun on a Chuck E Cheese’s clerk and escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash in broad daylight, officials said Sunday.
The robber--described as a 6-foot tall Latino man of medium build, 20 to 30 years old with dark hair and a mustache--entered the children’s pizza restaurant on Telephone Road in Ventura about 4:20 p.m. Saturday, police said.
After purchasing a soft drink, the man showed the clerk a handgun and demanded money, police said. The clerk complied.
After the gunman escaped, a male employee ran after him in the parking lot, police said. A passerby observed the suspect being chased and saw him get into a waiting vehicle, police said.
The passerby and the employee climbed into a car and followed the vehicle onto the Ventura Freeway and then southbound onto Victoria Avenue, police said.
They got the vehicle’s license number, returned to the restaurant and gave the number to police, officials said.
The car was found a short time afterward by the Oxnard Police Department, but the suspect had fled.
