Shots Leave Passenger Dead in Santa Ana
A 21-year-old woman was shot to death early Sunday in what police are calling an apparent gang-related incident.
Martha Gonzalez, hometown unknown, was a passenger in a car traveling east on 1st Street shortly after midnight when another car with four or five males approached, Police Sgt. Rick Vedborg said.
“They were passing Flower [Street] when they were confronted by the men in a light-colored car who drove up next to them and wanted to know their gang affiliation,” Vedborg said.
As the cars passed Ross Street, shots were fired from the light-colored car, Vedborg said.
Gonzalez was reportedly struck in the head and died en route to a nearby hospital.
Two men in the same car, Jose Gomez, 25, and Adam Tirado, 22, were slightly injured but were apparently not hospitalized, Vedborg said.
