Price Prayers

Single-family homes sold like hot cakes in the Valley last month, alas at hot-cake prices (D7A). . . . How to get heavenly prices, instead? Pat Zicarelli of the San Fernando Valley Assn. of Realtors tried a direct appeal to the Great Realtor in the Sky. During an invocation at a recent Realtors breakfast, he prayed for an upswing in the market.

Political Prayers

While he was at it, Zicarelli went on to ask God to boost the reelection campaign of keynote speaker Mayor Richard Riordan. . . . In a prayer that evoked giggles from some of the bowed heads at the Sportsmen’s Lodge, Zicarelli said: “Some of his critics would say it is a miracle that the mayor has come to the Valley, but we know the Valley is very important to him.”

In the Family

She died in the Everglades plane disaster, but the Candi Kubeck memorial scholarship fund for young pilots is being administered in Encino. Why? Well, Patrice King, manager of the Home Savings branch on Ventura Boulevard, is Kubeck’s stepsister. “They basically turned to the banker in the family to take care of the financial matters” when the fund was established, King said (A12). . . . Kubeck, who was in command of the ValuJet plane that sank in an alligator-infested swamp, was apparently the first woman captain killed in an airline crash.
