Hiking Opportunities in Laguna Canyon Expanded

Share

Hikers now have a variety of opportunities to explore the canyons and hillsides of Laguna Canyon.

Docents are leading guided walking tours into Laurel and Emerald canyons every Saturday morning. Shorter tours, which begin at 9 a.m., last about three hours and are moderately strenuous. More strenuous tours lasting up to six hours begin at 7:30 a.m.

Hikers must make reservations for either tour by calling (714) 854-7108.

In addition, the Jim Dilley Preserve will be open to hikers this Saturday and every third Saturday thereafter as part of a plan that allows the public limited access to the land.

The preserve features self-guided nature trails and the county’s largest natural lake. Maps and trail information are available at a trailer next to the parking lot, which is on the east side of Laguna Canyon Road three-quarters of a mile north of the junction with El Toro Road.

There are no restrooms in the preserve, and dogs and bicycles are not allowed.
