Improvements to Be Made on Euclid St.

Share

Improvements at four intersections along Euclid Street between Edinger Avenue and the San Diego Freeway at Ellis Avenue are planned to meet existing and future traffic demands.

The improvements along the 3-mile stretch include dual left-turn lanes, through lanes and right-turn lanes.

Euclid will remain a four-lane thoroughfare, except for widening to six lanes at the intersections of Warner, Talbert and Edinger avenues and a section from Ellis to Talbert.

After two years of study, the City Council recently approved the final report for the Euclid Street project. The council hired NBS/Lowry of Irvine for $142,390 to assist city staff.

Mark Lewis, the city’s associate engineer, said the project seeks to improve traffic flow and relieve congestion. The improvements proposed, he said, will add more capacity to the roadway.

Lewis said the plan addresses concerns about increased traffic and noise. Green Valley residents, who live along Euclid between Talbert and Warner, opposed widening Euclid, citing concerns about traffic being closer to their homes.

Euclid improvements proposed include:

* Dual left-turn lanes eastbound at Ellis onto southbound San Diego Freeway onramp; widening of southbound offramp to provide an additional lane to increase capacity at the intersection and reduce back-up traffic onto freeway.

* Dual left-turn lanes northbound at Talbert and three northbound through lanes.

* Three through lanes in each direction at Warner, dual left-turn lanes northbound and southbound and widening the intersection for right-turn only lanes in each direction.

* Dual left-turn lanes at Edinger northbound and southbound and conversion of right turn lanes in each direction to a shared lane for traffic to turn right or go through the intersection.
