One-Stop, High-Tech Job Resource Center Dedicated

The Electronic One-Stop Career Center--a facility that provides job seekers with computer links to potential employers, training programs and government agencies--was dedicated Thursday by city officials and business leaders.

Established with a $600,000 state grant to assist jobless workers, the high-tech center is operated as a public/private partnership by the city and the Anaheim Private Industry Council.

The center began offering limited services in January and is now in full operation. About 300 clients have used the facility, from laid-off aerospace workers looking for career changes to teenagers attempting to enter the job market.

“We try to get as many services as possible for the clients under one roof,” case manager Ray Herrera said. These services include electronically updated job listings, a resource library, Internet links to numerous companies and schools, referrals for crisis and consumer credit counseling and a software system that matches the skills of applicants with job descriptions.

The center also provides telephones, fax machines, copiers, a mailing service and help in preparing resumes.

“The bottom line,” said Frank Jacobson of the Private Industry Council, “is to get the people of Anaheim employed by giving them any assistance we can.”

Marge Pritchard, the city’s Job Training Program manager, said clients appreciate the convenience offered by a one-stop career center. “They like the atmosphere,” she said. “They say it’s very user-friendly.”

The Electronic One-Stop Career Center is at 50 S. Anaheim Blvd., Suite 300. Information: (714) 254-4350.
