Would-Be Robbers Assault Man Who Can’t Unlock Bank
Three armed men wearing ski masks and hiding in bushes assaulted a real estate appraiser Saturday as he arrived at his office in a bank building.
Believing the man was the manager of the American Savings Bank branch, the men demanded he open the front door to the building, 7830 Edinger Ave. The man, however, did not have the keys to the bank’s main entrance.
“They tried to get him to open the main doors and when he couldn’t, they became frustrated, struck him with their fists, knocked him down and kicked him,” Police Lt. Jon Arnold said. “They then tied him up with duct tape and fled on foot.”
The would-be robbers were wearing dark clothing and were carrying semiautomatic handguns.
The victim was taken to Huntington Beach Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released, Arnold said.
